I made a lot of mistakes early in my career. There is nothing more serious than the interchangeable use of the terms "marketing" and "advertising". Marketing and advertising are two important steps in the business development process, and there is a big difference between them. Misunderstanding the differences between them is more than just a linguistic mistake.

It is important to clearly distinguish between these processes. Not understanding the difference between them is not the best way. At best, the collision will laugh at you, and at worst, you will make a catastrophic mistake that will drain resources and lead to fatal errors. Do you want to learn from my mistakes? Keep scrolling.

Marketing vs. Advertising

Before we get into their main differences, let's take a look at their individual meanings. Simply put, marketing brings out the needs of the customers and advertising presents these products to the audience in an attractive and appealing way. Advertising is persuasion, and marketing is statistics gathering. Marketing is an open process that begins with the creation of a product, and advertising is part of marketing and one of the last stages of this process.

simply

  • Through marketing, the company implements a systematic market research plan for companies that turn their products/services into commodity exchanges.
  • Whereas advertising is the process of attracting public attention to a product / service through paid / free advertising and informative presentations.
  • Marketing is general, subjective and open.
  • Advertising is targeted, specific and targeted.
  • Marketing is the entire process of a company producing a product for the market.
  • Advertising, in fact, is an integral part of marketing and one of the main steps in this process.

As we define the difference between the two, it is also important to know the basics of marketing and advertising. Most of the articles are filled with heavy jargon and complex writing because they are written by people with no personal experience in the unpredictable business world. I believe that it is better to learn not from the audience, but from the person in the arena.

This is how I explain the basics of marketing and advertising.

Advantages and disadvantages of marketing

Marketing involves identifying, anticipating, and meeting consumer needs through accurate market coverage. It goes through several stages and depends on the type of market, product / service, stage of the funnel and the overall perception of the product.

As a seasoned entrepreneur and digital marketer, interpreting a solid marketing plan requires an in-depth analysis of the market and buying behavior of my target audience. This plan includes previewing, determining the value of the product, developing a comprehensive advertising strategy, and collecting feedback from loyal customers.

Marketing precedes advertising as it includes: Experienced traders appreciate the direction of the market and are familiar with the details of the surrounding areas.

In short, marketing includes:

  • Conduct surveys, surveys and interviews.
  • Collect product performance data.
  • Analysis of competing brands and identification of service gaps.
  • Providing reports and feedback to the promotion chain.
  • Create value propositions based on market research and customer feedback.
  • Use aggregated value propositions to define product/service niches.

Applying the Marketing Process

Marketing strategies can be boiled down to four elements: place, price, product, and promotion.

  1. Job title. Define your market, conversion stage, and target audience.
  2. Prices: Set the price the product/service costs.
  3. Product: Get insight into the market and strengthen your offer.
  4. Promotion: Development of an advertising strategy and creation of a marketing message.

Marketing is a deep market research and targeted analysis. Marketers analyze the market and inform the development team, which implements the obtained data into products. This is done through direct marketing, content marketing, affiliate marketing, and many other methods. Slogans and slogans used in advertising are also acquired through targeted marketing campaigns.

While pricing and promotion play an important role in a product's success, placement and distribution define areas where advertising campaigns can win. The main task of marketing is to build a reliable strategy with which to formulate a marketing message. The tone of these messages is determined by consumers.

Advantages and disadvantages of advertising.

Advertising is the process of informing the public about the benefits and uses of a product. The process involves sending a message, choosing hooks, and giving people all the information they need. These processes usually include advertising campaigns in the media. The advertising campaign relies on timely offers, creative placement and wording to ensure that the product resonates with consumers. Advertising is the dissemination of information about your products and services through the media and other distribution channels.

In short, advertising includes:

  • Create interest in the product.
  • Promote the product on Instagram, Twitter and other social networks.
  • Product promotion through radio, television and print advertising.
  • Calculate your ad frequency to break through a highly saturated media environment.

About the advertising process

The advertising process takes place in three stages. First, you need to create a product and define its brand. You then need to analyze the market (through marketing, of course) to predict sales and product desirability. Finally, you need to design your ad in the most creative and effective way to present your product to the world.

shortly speaking

It can be concluded that marketing is open and somehow serves as feedback for companies, while advertising is a promotional stage in the process of exchanging information about your product/service with the world.

I believe, and experts agree, that marketers and advertisers share the same end goal, which is to increase product/service awareness and alert consumers. By understanding the differences and similarities between advertising and marketing, companies can develop customized strategies for their products.
