FPJ Interview: New Challenges In Marketing, Says Marketing Icon Philip Kotler
Dr Philip Kotler, one of the biggest names in marketing, attended the virtual launch event hosted by MICA titled “Reviving the Future of Education in Developing Countries: Lessons from the Global Health Crisis”, a book co-authored by Professor Varsha Jain of B-School, MICA. The Free Press Journal asked Philip Kotler several questions about various marketing education issues. Excerpts from the interview:
How does your current interest in studying marketing compare to the 1980s and 1990s?
Marketing had a high interest rate in the 1980s and 1990s, and many young people wanted to specialize in attractive advertising. Since then, the demand for advertising has decreased somewhat.
What are the current challenges in marketing education?
New marketing challenges such as climate change, sustainability and the need to choose business causes have affected the market, positively for some and negatively for others.
What concepts do students need to understand to update their marketing knowledge?
Interest in DeGrowth is growing. As the economy aspires to endless growth, let's warm the planet and encourage more citizens to leave the heat. Other countries are trying to prevent refugees from migrating to their countries and creating new conflicts.
Meanwhile, marketers are taking advantage of the new landscape of thinking and design. Robots also play an important role from time to time.
