Google is discontinuing support for the meta-news keyword tag
In 2018, we learned that Google was quietly ending support for news meta keyword tags.
Google didn't actually announce this change until a few months ago.
John Mueller, Google's Webmaster Trends Analyst, confirmed this on Twitter:
"Looks like we stopped supporting it when we removed it from support. It was fine to leave it on the page, we're not using it for Google News anymore."
Using news meta keyword tags no longer helps Google understand your news content. Google ignores them like normal meta keyword tags.
Google introduced the meta-news keyword tag in 2012 exclusively for publishers.
