Full-service independent agency Waken has acquired global digital marketing agency Agnes Media to expand the agency's media footprint in the Australian, US and UK markets.

The acquisition, which is expected to close in late March, will include the transfer of Agnes Media's stable customer base, which includes several fintech brands and Hill Smith Wines (formerly Lumumba Wines), as well as three more senior contractors joining the Esnatz team.

Agnes Media founder Charlotte Ward (above left) will continue to serve as Waken's chief marketing officer, working with both groups to ensure a smooth transition.

Agnes Media Founded in 2020 with a focus on performance media to maximize growth and ROI. The agency's experience includes development strategies and brand building supported by strong scale and character, with Klarna as a key client. A metrics-driven agency, Agnes Media has a proven track record of growing brands and delivering results.

The acquisition is a first for the Awaken business and will significantly strengthen the agency's Australian team and improve its ability to execute client campaigns in the US and UK markets.

Chris Parker (above right), Founder and CEO of Waken, said, “This is a fantastic opportunity to expand Waken's existing offering. Agnes is known for her extensive media work in Australia, the United States and England. This acquisition will allow us to leverage our team on new client opportunities and create the ability to expand our campaigns to our US and UK clients.

Ward said: “This acquisition is an exciting new chapter for both agencies as we come together to bring greater value to our clients. There are great synergies between the two companies in traditional and media strategy and applications. I'm excited to develop the Agnès brand and can't wait to see what this acquisition brings to the market.

Ward will also create a separate entity, Web 3.0 Consulting, that will support brands on their blockchain projects and work with Awaken on client projects.

The acquisition follows Wake's success, including being ranked the 33rd fastest growing company in Australia by the AFR Fast 100 last November. The agency has seen client growth of more than 74% for four consecutive years, with new client additions in 2022 including Visit Newcastle, Adora Fertility, whiskey brand Proper 12, equipment supplier Husqvarna and McCarroll Automotive Group. Active clients include Proximo Group's Jose Cuervo and Kraken Room, Panasonic, Marriott Hotels, Armor All and Energizer.

The purchase will be completed at the end of March.
