Jack Daniels Superfan Goes Ballistic, Viral Over Dragqueen Marketing Campaign: ‘They Went Woke

First Bad Light and Kid Rock; Now Jack Daniels and Polly Michaelis.

The legendary Tennessee whiskey brand is being mocked for being 'woke' by a drag queen marketing campaign, and the reaction from fans has gone viral on Facebook.

Pauly Michaelis, a self-proclaimed big fan, wrote in a Facebook post last week that "For over 150 years, since 1866, this drink has always been associated with cowboys, warriors, bikers, wild rock bands and all the punks in America."You woke up."

Mr. Michaelis was a bit friendlier than Kid Rock, who took Bud Light cases for embracing transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

Instead, he made a video of "just" burning through hundreds of dollars worth of booze and his Jack Daniels merchandise.

This campaign was set in motion by a Jack Daniel's campaign that, according to Newsweek, was almost two years old, but which is resurfacing after Bud Light's uproar with drag queens from Raw's Drag Race.

During Gay Pride Month 2021, Jack Daniel's filmed a series of videos called "Drag Queen Summer Glamp" featuring three drag queens from a popular TV show in which the drag queens take a summer camp-style tour around their graduation facility in Lynchburg, Tennessee .

"You took the classic American tradition that was the ultimate definition of masculinity and made it sober, so I say F*** YOU JD and all your products. You will never have the honor of touching my lips, " mr. Michaelis said.

Newsweek noted that he's not the only one angry at Jack Daniel's.

Country music star Travis Tritt tweeted that whiskey fans "should beware" and posted promotional photos of the Jack Daniel's campaign.

Political commentator Benny Johnson, creative director of the conservative Turning Point USA, wrote last week that Jack Daniel's was "wide awake" and then pulled the product.

TIME: Jacques Daniels has officially changed her name to "Jill Daniels." The pronouns are the same: trash / whisky," he wrote on Twitter.

A spokesperson for Jack Daniel's defended the campaign in an article for Newsweek.

The company's products are "for everyone, including the LGBTQ+ community. As a longtime advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, Jack Daniels celebrates individuality and boldly lives his life on his own terms," the spokesperson said.
